Counselling for young people and adults
Counselling for young people and adults
Hello, my name is Deborah and I am a experienced, qualified and insured counsellor.
I am a member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work to their ethical code.
I believe that connection is at the heart of what we do.
I place strong emphasis on building our therapeutic relationship and holding space to do the work.
Becoming a counsellor has been a career change for me and set me on the path of professional and self development.
Before setting up private practice I have worked as a counsellor in schools supporting children, young people and staff members in their therapeutic journey.
I work from a humanistic viewpoint believing that everyone has the potential to find their own answers, however there are times when we need help and support to find these. I work in a supportive way providing insight and gentle challenge where appropriate.
I work with children and young people, as well as adults.
With practice offices in both Sevenoaks or London Bridge I offer flexibilty of in person sessions. Online sessions are also available, if this is your preference.
As a counsellor I am here to help you navigate through life's challenges. If you are feeling stuck, anxious or overwhelmed, whether struggling with anxiety, depression, or relationship issues I am here to support you. Talking therapy allows you to explore your emotions in a non-judgemental supportive relationship, within a safe and confidential space.
We all have a view of the world that is our own based on our own life experience. Our understanding of how and why this impacts our wellbeing, our relationships and daily lives can help with a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.
Talking about these in a safe space, where there is no judgement or opinion can allow for exploration and understanding to help these challenging emotions.
Counselling can provide a listening ear that is impartial, allowing supported reflection to look at your worries and concerns and help you see a way through.
As an integrative therapist I draw on different theories to find the best way of working together whether this is providing empathy, insight, psycho-education or gentle challenge. I work with talking therapies however also creatively when appropriate. This is your time and space where we can explore what is happening for you.
Our regular sessions will be 50 minutes and will be either face to face or online, depending on your preference.
Finding the person to entrust your child to can feel like a real challenge.
I am happy to support a meeting with you, as a parent or carer, in the first instance to answer any queries or questions that you have about my practice or how I may work with your child. We can also arrange to hold part of our first session together so we can agree on boundaries and the limits of confidentiality within the therapeutic relationship. It is important for the person embarking on their therapy to be engaged and wanting to be a part of this.
I hold a full CRB check and currently work in schools as well as private practice. I have a safeguarding policy, however do ensure that the confidentiality of my client is paramount.
It can be hard to take the step and pick up the phone or send the message.
We can arrange an initial 30 minute zoom, telephone call or in person meeting where we can talk about what you want from counselling and see if we are a fit to work together. Following this, we arrange a time and day for our sessions.
